Oktoberfest to benefit Sonoma Valley Teen Services

Well, it is October and the Oktoberfests are in the air, and the one that will be at the Moose Lodge on Saturday, Oct. 15, will be a benefit for Sonoma Valley Teen Services. Sonoma Valley Teen Services provides resources for teens in the Sonoma Valley to overcome obstacles that arise in their home, work and social environments. Programs are specifically tailored to empower teens by offering the opportunity to become productive young adults 13 to 18 years old. Some of the programs include “Lovin’ Oven,” that you may have seen selling baked goods at the farmers market, math tutoring, the bikes + program, where refurbished bicycles are provided for those that need them, the No Name Cafe at the high school, Teen Safe Ride, the Shop, the local teen music venue and much more. JoyRide will be providing the music for the event, which kicks off at 6 p.m. Community Cafe will be providing the dinner, and there will be a silent auction as well. The Sonoma Valley Grange in Boyes Hot Springs has a community barn dance on Saturday, Oct. 15, kicking off at 8 p.m. Much like square dancing, the caller, Mavis McGaugh and band Heartstrings, will walk you through the dance, which will be to Irish and bluegrass music. The event is open to all, with dancers under the age of 21 admitted free.

The Kathmandu Corner will have the debut performance of Broken Moon tonight, Oct. 14, at 8 p.m. The band is comprised of local duo Sean Carscadden and Marty O’Reilly, along with Sarah Summers, with the addition of rhythm section Andrew Emer on bass and J. B. Duff on drums. Saturday, Oct. 15, the corner has the Timothy O’Neal band, also at 8 p.m. There is no cover either night.

Murphy’s Irish Pub has Joyride in the Snug tonight, Oct. 14, for an 8 p.m. show. Saturday, Oct. 15, brings in the Perfect Crime, playing folk, blues and ballads, also at 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, Aidan O’Reilly and friends take over the Snug at 6:30 p.m. There is no cover for any of the shows.

HopMonk Tavern Sonoma welcomes Michael Bloch today, Oct. 14, at 5 p.m. later tonight, the inside stage has Bobby Jo Valentine. Saturday, Oct. 15, the garden stage has local boogie-woogie star Wendy DeWitt at 1 p.m. Later that day, on the inside stage, it’s the Courtney Janes at 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, it’s Nate Lopez on the garden stage. There is no cover for any of the shows.

Tonight, Oct. 14, it’s the Carrtunes in the tasting room at Sebastiani Winery and Vineyards for a 6 p.m. show. The band is welcoming a new vocalist to the fold, Caryn Prince will be debuting tonight with the band. There will also be food available from Community Cafe.

Centre du vin, inside the Ledson Hotel has music from Amber Gougis on Saturday, Oct. 15, kicking off at 6:30 p.m.

The Swiss Hotel has the local blues act the Rett Hamer band on the back patio on Sunday, Oct. 16, for a 2:30 p.m. show. There is no cover.

Motogruv

El Verano Inn welcomes Motogruv tonight, Oct. 14, for a 9 p.m. show. This will be the last west-coast show for the band before they travel to New Orleans to promote their new CD, titled “Nowhere and Here.” Grandfather Paradox opens the show, and there is no cover.

The Sonoma Garden Park is having a potluck on Saturday, Oct. 15, as one of many events that will benefit the park and the Sonoma Ecology Center. There will also be a pie-baking contest and live music from the Penny Hens. The event starts at 11 a.m. and for more info, call 996-0712, ext.110.

Sonoma Springs Brewery welcomes Toby Germano as a solo act on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m.

The Plaza Bistro has jazz tonight, Oct. 14, from Swing Fever. Since 1978, the band has been touring the Bay Area paying tribute to the great swing eras of the 1930s and ‘40s. Saturday, Oct. 15, the bistro welcomes the Eric Muhler Duo, featuring Michael Wilcox on bass. Showtime both nights is 7 p.m. and there is no cover.

The Cork Pullers will be doing their thing at Ravenswood Winery on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 1 p.m. as part of the Pickberry release party.

The Blue Moon Saloon has karaoke on Saturday, Oct. 15, kicking off at 9 p.m. The Sunday night blues jam continues this Sunday, Oct. 16, as well, kicking off at 10 p.m.

Stephanie Ozer will be playing Solo Piano Night at the Jazz School in Berkeley on Saturday, Oct. 15, kicking off at 8 p.m.

Carrtunes at Sebastiani Winery and Vineyards

The amazing vocal harmonies and folk songs from Cynthia Carr and the Carrtunes will be filling the tasting room at Sebastiani Winery and Vineyards tonight, July 22, starting at 6:30 p.m. If you’ve not checked these ladies out, tonight is your chance. You will get an Andrews Sisters vibe but will also be taken right back to the ‘60s with some of the traditional folk standards the band lays down. The guitar work from Tom Martin is also something not to be missed. Barbecue from Community Cafe will also be served on the patio, and typically sell out. There is no cover for the event.

Murphy’s Irish Pub has bluegrass from one of the best bluegrass acts in the North Bay, and they hail right here from Sonoma Valley. The David Thom Band will take the stage in the snug tonight, July 22, kicking off at 8 p.m. The band plays traditional bluegrass in the style of Flatt and Scruggs and all share one microphone when they play. Saturday, July 23 the snug brings in the Gentlemen Soldiers playing a tribute to the English band the Pogues, also kicking off at 8 p.m. Sunday, July 24, the pub brings in Greenhouse for an early show, kicking off at 6:30 p.m. There is no cover for any of the shows at the pub.

In case you can’t wait until Saturday for your Pogues fix, you can catch the Gentlemen Soldiers tonight, July 22, at the Sonoma Springs Brewery for a 7 p.m. show.

Landmark Winery and Vineyards has the legendary jazz guitarist Randy Vincent for an afternoon show in the patio on Saturday, July 23, starting at 1 p.m. In addition with being an instructor at Sonoma State and influencing many local guitarists, including Jason Bodlovich, he also appeared on Dana Land’s debut album.

Whole Foods in the Sonoma Marketplace welcomes the Cork Pullers on Saturday, July 23, for an 11 a.m. show.

Benefit for F.I.SH. at Murphy’s Irish Pub

Murphy’s Irish Pub will have a benefit for Friends in Sonoma Helping (F.I.S.H) tonight, Dec. 21, and will also be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the members of the Carrtunes getting together as a band. The group has done the fundraiser in the past, and will donate all the proceeds from the night. The pub will also be donating a portion of the evening’s profits. The show gets underway at 7 p.m. and admission is $12 dollars, or 10 cans of food. The goal is to raise enough money and food to feed 50 families this holiday season.

Sue Albano and Mark Dennis will be at Tiddle E. Winks on East Napa St. tonight, Dec. 21, for an hour of holiday shopping specials from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will go to Vox Populi to help the vocal group purchase stage risers.
