Western Swing hall of famers at Little Switzerland

Little Switzerland is bringing a lot of music this weekend, starting tonight, June 25, with Banda Pacifica at 9 p.m. This is a big band, with 14 pieces. Early Saturday, June 26, has the Gold Coast jazz band playing dixieland swing from 1 to 4 p.m. Then they ramp up for a night of western swing that will feature members of the Western Swing Hall of Fame, Bobbie Black and Don Burnham, as the band Lost Weekend hits the stage at 8 p.m. Sunday, June 27, has music as well with the Gruber Family band. The Gruber family, featuring Peter and Toni, owned the venue from 1971 to 1991 and has since added sons Michael and Martin to the band. The group was a favorite of Sonoma Valley and beyond for many years. That show kicks off at 5 p.m.

Sonoma Jazz camp is back in the Grinstead Amphitheater for an afternoon of music from the students on Sunday, June 27, at 1:30 p.m. With a little help from Sonoma Jazz Plus, the Sonoma Community Center and the Sonoma Valley Jazz Society, the 20 student class touched on many aspects of jazz, including theory, improvisation and rhythm, among other musical topics. One of  the instructors was percussionist Kendrick Freeman, The show is free to the public and families are welcome.

Off the heels of a successful grand re-opening, the El Verano Inn is having a potluck and barbecue with music from Fast Corky and the Hubcaps on Saturday, June 26. The band will be jamming into the evening and will have some special local guests as well. Food starts at 2 p.m. and the band starts at 4 p.m. There is no cover.

They’re calling it “Reds, Whites and Tunes” and the monthly musical event will be held in the tasting room at the Roots in Sonoma Winery at Cornerstone in Carneros tonight, June 25, and kicking off the series will be the Cork Pullers. The Cork Pullers take you down a musical journey through the ‘60s and ‘70s with popular folk songs. The event is planned for the last Friday of each month.

Dana Land is back from her native Honolulu, Hawaii where she recorded a portion of her new album with the Honolulu Jazz quartet. She will be laying down some of the songs tonight, June 25, at the Plaza Bistro with Jonathon Alford and John Hoy. Showtime is 7 p.m.

Sebastiani Winery and Vineyards will have music tonight, June 25, from Tom Duarte kicking off at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, June 27, brings jazz to the Winery from the Peter Welker trio, which goes off at 1 p.m. There is no cover for either show.

Jess Petty and Ken Chambers will be at the Ledson Lounge on the Plaza tonight, June 25, at 6 p.m.

Jon Popenoe and friends will be at the gazebo in the Sonoma Marketplace today, June 25, for a afternoon show at 5 p.m.

Steiners Tavern will have the Sean Carscadden band tonight, June 25, for a 10 p.m. show. Saturday, June 26, has the dance sounds of DJ Dave, also for a 10 p.m. show.

Olive & Vine in Glen Ellen will have the Cynthia Tarr band tonight, June 25, at 7 p.m. and this show will feature Ken Cook on piano.

The Joe Chaplain band will be making its debut appearance at the Meritage Martini and Oyster bar tonight, June 25, at 7 p.m. and everyone that buys a ticket for the event will be entered into a drawing and four lucky folks will get an advance copy of the bands new live CD titled “Bad Dog.”

Mondo American Beer Garden will have the sounds of Strange October Day on Saturday, June 26, at 7 p.m. The band consists of Dave Hinkley, Levi Chavoya, J. B. Duff and Alex Turner. There is no cover for the show.

Landmark Winery and Vineyards has the Jim Adams duo on Saturday, June 26, for an afternoon of music that kicks off at 1 p.m.

Murphy’s Irish Pub welcomes Boys Night Out to the pub tonight, June 25, for an 8 p.m. show. Saturday, June 26, brings in the sounds of High Country, who some refer to as the most traditional bluegrass band on the west coast. Saturdays show also starts at 8 p.m. Sunday, June 27, has the Celtic fusion sounds of Greenhouse for an afternoon show that starts up at 6 p.m.

Saddles at MacArthur Place has music in the veranda on Sunday, June 27, with jazz from the John Kalleen group, starting at 4 p.m.

The Big 3 Diner in Boyes Hot Springs, has music Monday, June 28, from the Goodfellows, starting at 7 p.m.

The Jami Jamison band is on the road tonight, June 25, in front of the courtyard fountain in the Safeway Shopping center at 2765 Yulupa Ave in Santa Rosa for a free show, courtesy of the Bennett Valley Kitchen. The show starts at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 26, the band is at the Windy Hills Winery in Cotati as part of a four-band show. Jami’s set goes off at 2:20 p.m.
