Soundbytes – Bits and Pieces

It’s time once again for one of the quirkiest and home-town events in the Valley, the Glen Ellen Street Fair, to be held in downtown Glen Ellen on Sunday, Oct. 11, where they will block off Arnold Drive and have a good old-fashioned street fair. The day kicks off with a parade that will feature local firefighters and much more. The theme for this years fair is ‘Glen Aliens” and we’re sure many will attend. There is also a quilting contest and raffle along with over 85 food, beverage, clothing and other unique items. There is also live music, starting at 12 p.m. with the Solcats, followed by Dan Martin and the Noma Rocksteady Band and then it’s T-Luke and the Tight Suits. There is no admission for the fair but it is suggested you walk or bike to the event, as parking will be minimal.

For the ninth year in a row, the Sonoma Bar Battle takes over the Sonoma Valley Veterans Memorial Building on Saturday, Oct. 10, with a “spirited” competition that includes many of the local bartenders all raising money for the Native Sons of the Golden West Parlor #111 and American Legion Jack London Post #489. The teams will be competing for a number of prizes, including best drink and best cocktail in the “Iron Bartender” competition, best decorated booth and best bartender. Train Wreck Junction will be providing the dance music in between the heats. The night kicks off at 6 p.m. and tickets will be available at the door.
