Soundbytes – Bits and Pieces
Levi Lloyd is a bluesman. Period. The man has toured with some of the greatest names in blues, B. B. King, John Lee Hooker and was the guitarist for Joe Luis Walker for years. If his worn out ’68 Les Paul could talk, the stories it could tell. Typically you’d drive far and wide to see this talent, but he will be at the El Verano Inn on Saturday, June 18, at 9 p.m. and there is no cover.
Just in case you have not been paying attention, the B. R. Cohn Fall Festival has moved from the winery to the Field of Dreams and been renamed the Sonoma Music Festival, scheduled for Oct. 2 – 4, 2015. Where is the Field of Dreams you ask? Right behind the police station on First St. W., where Jazz + used to be held. A limited number of locals only standing room tickets went on sale last Wednesday and there may still be some left. You have to have proof of ID that you live in Sonoma Valley, within Schellville to Kenwood, to get one of the 47 dollar tickets. The event is seated this year so this will be the only way to stand for the shows. Who might you be seeing? Chicago, America, Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band, the Doobie Brothers, Michael McDonald, Gregg Allman, Edgar Winter, Pablo Cruise, Carlos Reyes and more. No, not all on the same day. Local tickets can only be purchased in person at Sonoma Chevrolet at 687 W Napa St. For more info, point your browser to sonomamusicfestival.com.
Mark your calendar for Thursday, June 30, when it’s time once again for the City party. Presented by the Sonoma Community Center, the event has been moved from Tuesday to Thursday as to not to conflict with the Tuesday night market. They have also brought the stage back behind City Hall. The acts this year feature a variety of local performers, including Tony Saunders, Austin DeLone, Roy Blumenthal, David Aguilar, and Rich Kirch, along with members of Sonoma bands Train Wreck Junction, The No Buenos, Wingo Moon and the Whiskey Thieves. Lazy Lester, a member of the Blues Hall of fame, will headline with the Sonoma Blues Review lead by Junior Boogie. The event is free and open to the public, and kicks off at 5:30 p.m.
