Soundbytes – Saints and Sinners Ball
With Mardi Gras right around the corner, it’s time once again for the annual “Saints and Sinners Ball,” formerly held at Rossi’s, and the tradition continues on Saturday, Feb. 25, with the new establishment, the Reel Fish Shop and Grill taking the helm. T Luke and the Tight Suits will once again headline the event with their danceable Cajun Zydeco tunes, as well as the Element Brass Band and a special appearance from the ladies of Amor do Samba. The evening kicks off early, at 8:30 p.m. with dinner still being served until 9 p.m.
T Luke is actually Luke Domingue, who’s father was the late-great Richie Domingue from the popular act Gator Beat, who toured regionally for years and introduced the Cajun Zydeco style of music to many, us included. Luke has a handful of the old Gator Beat band members in his act, so he barely misses a beat. The Element Brass Band hails from Sacramento and is one of the areas top “Second Line” acts in the area. Second line is a long standing tradition with brass band parades born out of New Orleans. The tradition is rooted in post-Civil War America with musical ties and lineage dating back to early West African culture. The main line, also known as the first line, is the first section in a brass band parade. The first line is led by members of the respective club who hold a parading permit. In the first line of the parade you will also find the brass band. Those who follow behind the parade to dance and enjoy the music are known as the second line.
