Soundbytes – Bits and Pieces

Once again, MusicWorks!Sonoma is back with a holiday concert, this year titled “Christmas in Sonoma.” at the St. Francis Solano Church on Sunday, Dec. 13. Since 2011, the organization has helped various non-profits raise more than $100,000. Artistic Director, James Griewe, and accompanist, John Simon, will be leading up the group for a Christmas concert celebrating traditional carols as well as new musical stylings for Christmas that are both dynamic and beautiful. Local music teachers Carolyn Niehaus, of Altimira and Adele Harrison Middle Schools and Casey Jones, of Sonoma Valley High School and selected students will be invited guest performers. Judy Coe, well known Bay Area professional flautist will appear as special guest artist. This years show will be in the memory of Father Mike Kelly, who passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Dec. 7. Showtime is 7 p.m. and the event is free and open to the public, although donations of any kind will be accepted.


The Sonoma Community Center is presenting a holiday concert on the Rotary Stage in Andrew’s Hall on Saturday, Dec. 12, called “ Holiday Soul” and will feature a number of performers from the center’s musical department. Music Director Cynthia Tarr will be directing the show and had this to say about it. “We’ve taken a unique approach for a holiday show, our program will include an eclectic collection of spiritual and secular music, often humorous with a handful of beautiful carols, to convey the overall spirit of this time of year.”
