A two-part hula inspired concert is scheduled for Sonoma Valley, with the first part being held tonight, June 22, in the Grinstead Ampitheater. Hula Mai’s third annual Ho`ike will kick off at 5:30 p.m. with plenty of singing and dancing talent, and also its own live band and will be performing the entire spectrum of hula; ancient, modern, comic and even hulas using the spectacular feathered gourds called ‘UlÌ ulÌ. Hawaiian hula legend, Patrick Landeza, saw Hula Mai performing at a concert last summer, and felt that there may be a growing audience for Hawaiian music and culture in Sonoma Valley. Since then, he has tested the waters here with a first show in February and a second in April. Being pleased with the audience response to those shows, Landeza has booked a third show for Sonoma, the Legends of Waikiki, with five island musicians.
